Chief Steve Mylett was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1965 and raised on Long Island. His father was a police officer with the City of New York and Chief Mylett knew at a very young age that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and be a police officer. Both his parents were devout Catholics, and he was raised in a household of 7 boys where faith was center in the home.
Chief Mylett served in the United States Air Force as a Security Policeman for approximately 4 years. In January 1989, Chief Mylett joined the Corpus Christi (Texas) Police Department. He would spend more than 23 years serving the Corpus Christi community as a patrol officer, a DARE officer, a narcotics detective, and other assignments. He rose through the ranks and achieved the rank of Assistant Chief of Police over Operations.
In November 2011, Chief Mylett was hired to lead the Southlake (Texas) Police Department as Chief of Police. He served in that position for over 3 years. In April 2015, Chief Mylett was selected to lead the Bellevue (Washington) Police Department, a city that borders the City of Seattle. Chief Mylett served as Chief of Police in Bellevue for more than 6 years. In August 2021, Chief Mylett was selected to serve as Chief of Police for the City of Akron.
Chief Mylett has more than 38 years of experience as police officer. His faith in Jesus has guided him throughout his life as he has dedicated his life to serving others. Chief Mylett has been married to his wife JoAnn for 32 years. They have 4 adult children and 3 grandchildren.
First Friday Club luncheons are now held at
