Pope Francis Sends Condolences After 32 Killed in Suicide Bombings in Iraq

SABAH ARAR
An injured man is rushed to the emergency ward of a hospital following a twin suicide bombing on a bustling commercial street in the heart of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Jan. 21. The attack killed at least 32 people and wounded more than 110 others, Iraq’s health ministry said. The ministry said the first suicide bomber had rushed into the market and claimed to feel sick, so that people would gather around him. He then detonated his explosives.

The bombings took place a day after the Vatican released a statement indicating that the papal trip to Iraq would take place ‘subject to variations’ on March 5-8.
