Italy’s ‘Anti-Homophobia’ Law: Vatican Request Sparks Church-State Debate

In an interview with Vatican News June 24, Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin clarified that the Vatican’s letter was not intended to be made public, and “was in no way a request to block the law.”

In a two-page letter leaked to the press this week, the Vatican Secretariat of State raised concerns that parts of the law, as currently written, are too vague and could lead to violations of freedoms of the Catholic Church.
